CD Drive at Boot

D

Dick Reuben

Runnung XP Home, SP1.

What would cause my CD drive to spin very hard while booting?

It continues to spin until all Startup programs are loaded, and
shortly after the last one is up, the drive stops. It doesn't play
the CD that's in the drive..it just spins at a super speed.

They system is gathering info about the CD that's in the drive. Remove the
CD and it'll stop.

Correct!
Unless you are going to boot from the cd...it's not a good idea to keep it
in the drive at boot

You have the CD drive set as a boot device in your BIOS, there is a CD in
the drive, so it runs to see if the CD is bootable. Remove the CD from the
drive.
