CD does not work after installing windows XP

David S

A fresh install using windows XP Professional. No issues
at all during installation, video card was only external
card installed on motherboard.

After doing the installation of windows xp, inserted cd
for loading drivers for motherboard. Would not
successfully read the cd.

Tried two different cables to cd rom no luck.
Upon booting up computer the "device manager" will
initially say the cd rom is there, after inserting the cd
into the cdrom the device manager will say that the cd is
not connected to computer...

I am confused as to how the windows program was able to
load onto the harddrive in the first place.

The cd rom device has been used before with windows xp, I
even tried a different CD player.... no luck.

any suggestions on what to do???

Vaguely;
A cdrom may need to be connected as such.
Master on end of ide cable.
Slave connected closer to motherboard on ide cable.
Ram can even cause your problem if defective.

Try resetting the configuration data ( drive reads ) in the BIOS. Once you
reboot, the operating system may see the cd rom drive.

it is odd problem... the device manager will see the cd
rom drive, after trying to read a cd it just
simply "blanks" out of device manager, you can reload the
cdrom driver (install hardware) everything works but...
the device manager does say that the cdrom is not hooked
up to computer... I have tried a different cd rom player
no luck.. I wonder if my hard drive could be defective???

Use 2nd computer to download drivers on USB Thumb Drive.
Plug USB Thumb Drive into USB on 1st computer.
Load Drivers.
