I wrote a cd consisting of a couple of files. My burning program is Sonic
"Record Now". My operating system is winxp. I formatted the disk first so
that I could "drag and drop" to the disk.

I can read the cd ok in my burner drive and the dvd-rom drive which also
came on the computer. When I try to read the files on my other computers,
which run on win98, they do not read the disk.

Is there any way I can produce a data cd which will be recognized by my
other pcs? They play music cds I have written. Did the formatting cause
this?

Thanks

Drew

If you format the cd for packet writing(drag and drop) and then try to use
it in a computer that does not have a packet writing software installed, you
will need to install the burning software on that computer or (not sure if
your software does this, but) when using ezcd creator and a packet writting
formatted cd, it puts a file on the cd so you can install the packet writing
reader on any computer you need to view the disk in. See if your software
does this. If not you might want to switch to Roxio or Nero.

Thanks a lot!

I suspected something like this.

If I don't format the disk, but simply write the data to it, will it be
readable on other pcs?

Yes, you just create a data cd. CD-RW or CD-R either should work fine.
You're welcome.
