CD burning not working

M

Magne

Using Vista Ultimate and try do burn files to CD using Vista's builtin
burning functionality.
I follow the wizard when the empty CD is inserted and afterwards i try to
drag-drop files to this drive, but the files never appear in the destination
drive folder.
What could be wrong ?
I have tried both "Live File System" and "Mastered" formats.

I've had the same problem, using a Lite-On DVD RW. It can recognize the CD
format, and read it, but when it writes to it, it writes nothing. It has no
problems with DVDs of any kind. I'd love to hear some information about this
as well.

Thanks for all your info
It is absolutely clear that I will NOT use Vista's builtin burning
facilities for any kind of critical backup...
Any recommendation for 3'rd party alternatives (Nero, Roxio etc) ?
Perhaps I simply didn't wait long enough until the files eventually would
appear in the right pane (but no waiting indication, message or cursor etc).
How can Microsoft jeopardize reputation by thinks like this ? (I hope Live
OneCare does not show up to be similarly "freaky")

"In general the CD-DVD writing behavior of Vista is bizarre."

Yes, it sure can be.

I use Roxio EMC 9 on Vista Ultimate x64. I have no issues with it
whatsoever. I recommend it.

For backup you can use the backup programs in Vista, either file backup or
depending on the version, Complete PC backup which is disk imaging.

Acronis True Image 10 works on Vista (again disk imaging).

For CD burning I use Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7.5 on Vista Ultimate x86
(originally had it on XP Pro). It works fine. I haven't gotten around to
upgrading to EMC 9. The cost is higher than I'm willing to go right now,
and with 7.5 working except for Sonic's backup program which comes in the
suite and which I never used on XP anyway.

Have you ever seen where, when you put in a CD-R, it believes there is no
disc in there whatsoever and the wizard or autorun app never even shows up?
Then, if I try to right-click and 'Format', it tells me to Insert a Disc. I
haven't tried with a DVD-R yet (I will tonight), but CD-R burning worked
before Vista. It reads CDs just fine, by the way.

asking me to insert a blank disc in drive E:. Can anyone help me

Yes, I am getting the same response with cd's and dvd's. Don't know why. I
am spending a lot of time trying to figure it out. No luck so far. Driving me
crazy. Good luck.
