CD Burner incorrect function

Hi everyone, hopefully you can help me.

I have a VPR matrix computer with windows XP, and a DVD
burner that came with the machine. Whenever I try to put
a blank CD in the drive and write to it, windows
says "D:\ is not accessible, incorrect function"

I have NO other CD burning software installed. I have
tried removing the Enum key for CD drives, that did not
help.

I tried removing the service for cd burning and
reloading, that didn't help.

I removed the upperfilter and lowerfilter registry keys,
no effect.

I forgot to mention I have already tried the missing
drive fix.

Nero works fine as well.

The drive reads other CD's just not blank ones. And I
obviously cannot burn.

Recording is enabled under the recording tab in
properties.

Anyone else have ideas??

Thanks,

Are you using el cheapo media?
The reason I ask is that the cdrw I have...an Iomega
brand.. is rather particular as to what media it will and
will not recognize.
I often get similar messages when trying to use
inexpensive media.
The problem goes away when I use the recommended blank
disks.
The manufacturer of your drive should have a list of
recommended media to use on their website.

Did it ever work?
If so,when did the problem begin?

If no other burning software is installed...where did the
upper and lower filter entries come from?
Remember that a lot of media playing software nowadays
also includes the ability to burn disks.
Try clean booting to narrow down the problem.

Tried clean booting.. no effect.

I am using TDK media, not so cheap.

I removed the upper/lowerfilters after removing nero.

It worked until I had to reload awhile ago.

I was going to try a repair install, but haven't yet. I
want to know the solution in case this comes up in the
future, or the repair does not work.

When you say it worked until you had to reload...do you
mean that you ran a clean install of XP to fix some
problem?
Or did you run a repair install of the OS?
I personally hate doing clean installs to fix problems
but you may have to.

Does it work in safe mode?

What about a new user account?

What does device manager say?
Any hidden devices listed there?
You might try uninstalling the drive from DM and cold
booting to reinstall it.

Full format re-install. Now it does not work.

Does not read blank CD's in safe mode.

Didn't try a new user account.

Device mgr looks fine.

I removed the drives from the enum key, reloaded. No
effect.

The only other obvious thing I can think of is a driver
issue.
You say the drive is a DVD burner and it came with the
system?
The clean install you ran was with the disk provided by
the manufacturer or is it a retail disk?
You may need to load proprietary drivers for the DVD
burner.

Is there a recording tab listed on the properties page
for the drive...right click in My Computer and choose
properties.
Is enable cd recording checked?

A Google search for incorrect function turned up a few
pages suggesting Norton System Works may be a problem.

Maybe reinstalling Nero would fix the problem.
