Cd burner disabled

Hi folks,
I'm new at this.. I have a Plexwriter 40/12/40a. The drive (which would be
F, don't know if this matters) is not recognised on my computer(XP Pro os).
The device manager states it is disabled and has a red "X" next to it.
Windows could not enable it. The drive is connected in that I can open and
close it and the light flashes amber then goes out. I checked to see the
master/slave setting in BIOS which read "auto" on primary and secondary. I
learned all of this while trying to solve the problem so I am not sure if I'm
doing anything right. Unfortunately I cannot find the driver cd that came
with the plextor, still looking.
Some one please help!!!

I'd give this a shot first - try first the automated tool and if it doesn't
do you any good then do the manual edit.

The master/slave setting in the bios will always be set to auto. Did you fit
this drive, has it worked before & stopped working.??

The master / slave setting to check is the link setting on the drive itself.
If it is connected to the IDE cable with a hard drive connected then it
should be set to slave. Look at the info for the drive to get the link
setup.
