I've seen a lot of recommendations here to use CCleaner. Before I let it do
its things, how important are the IE index.dat files and the various Windows
log files, especially the KBxxxxxx.log files? Is it OK to delete these?

I've had no problem with CC, you can also select what you want deleted, and
as far as I know, it doesn't delete KB files.

I *know* it lets you select what you want deleted. That's why I asked. And
no, it doesn't delete KB files, but it *does* want to delete the KB *log*
files. So - are KBxxxxxx.log files needed if you ever decide to uninstall a
KB fix? And what about the IE index.dat files - are they needed for anything?

So what. If you're too scared to try it, why don't you just stay in bed all
day and hide under the covers? As far as I'm concerned, the index.dat files
aren't important for keeping, I always get rid of the data in them, and I've
never needed the KBxxxxxx.log files, so why are you so worried about them?

Yes. I've done it for years with no problems. You can delete everything
the Cleaner finds. If you want to save any cookies, use the
Options/Cookies feature.
