Case of the disappearing toolbar in XP SP2

Everything was fine and then about two days ago my XP SP2 started acting up.
What it does...

Every time I reboot or do a hard boot the toolbar at the bottom of the
screen rearranges itself. It unlocks and totally hides the quick launch
toolbar and two other toolbars I created which before now were working fine.
They are simply folders under "my documents" that hold shortcuts. How can I
fix this disappearing toolbar problem once and for all. It's getting
annoying having to reset it each time I boot up.

I'm on an HP Pavilion 2.3Ghz Celeron with 512MBs of RAM and an 80 Gig HDD,
using Windows XP Home, SP2.

Thanks ahead of time.

Thank you. I'll try these. I did a restore. I noticed that my restore
function has been turned off somehow. It only goes back to Tuesday of this
week. In addition, the problem I have seems to be related to my explorer.
Every time I hit the "up" button the screen scrambles and then the icons on
the desktop disappear and I have to reboot. I've also noted that when I
first load my browser (I use Firefox because IExplorer just hangs so much
and always did) I get a popup advertising an escort service. I am
megaprotected from that sort of thing too (with the Telus eProtect). The
site that pops up is
http://promo.betfair.com/poker/cnd123.asp?rfr=4409&sid=1386. I'm thinking
perhaps I should make sure I have an incremental backup (I burn my docs to a
DVD-RW) and redo the whole hard drive. Drastic measures, so we'll see.

Your system has now been infested by some type of malware / spyware
that is hijacking your PC. Relying out he on-line security packages
of most ISPs is just not enough. I have seen times were the PCs
protected by this was un-protected by "service" interruptions. Also,
the Internet must be using or no protection is of (unlucky) or the PC
is "locked" down (better but not usuable.

You need to clean up your PC with locally installed software .
Download and update these free softwares:

AVG AntiVirus Free
AVG AntiMalware Free
Spyware Terminator
AD Aware
Spybot: Search and Destroy

(SuperAntiSpyware is fine to detect. To clean up, they want you to
pay for the removal module. Stay away/)

Thanks. I know. When Firefox did an update it appears to have uninstalled by
ADBLOCK PLUS. So I reinstalled it. I will try Spybot S&D. Know it and love
it. I don't have to load it up, which my ISP's eProtect Package will object
to. If nothing else what HAS come out of this which is good is that I'm done
a lot of backups. Wish I had a dedicated backup drive. Hmmmm. I wonder if
you can do that to the new Skydrive from Microsoft.
