casalemedia

I just reinstalled using a low level format. I immediately instaled Norton
Antivirus, Microsoft Antispyware and then Spy Sweeper. Within few minutes
Microsoft Antispyware poped up a warning that casalemedia is trying to access
my Host file. I blocked this but can not imagine where this came from since
all I did was reinstall, format, instaled Norton Antivirus, Microsoft
Antispyware and then Spy Sweeper.

I had this warning before the reinstall, so now I have a native system, so
where would it come from ?

Thank.

"Casale Media is a tracking cookie ..."

and

It's a cookie. It's a .txt file. Text files are not executable. You sure
MSAS is saying "casalemedia" is changing the hosts file? Maybe it is saying
something is *adding* an entry for casalemedia in the hosts file, like some
anti-malware software you installed the replaces or adds to the hosts file a
bunch of "bad" hosts (to point back at localhost so you can't get to those
bad hosts).

Hi Avnguard

These "text files" are spread around our world to different severs.

"Friendly servers" and the "Bad guys servers".

And thats it.

I am nearly sure that anti spyware coalition will recommend
a stop to use these cookies despite of invested money to track these
cookies with and present beutiful statistics with Powerpoint or Excel
presentations. Ads companys must find a better solution to "track"
users or understand that this is NOT needed.

Spysweeper's "common ads siste" shield adds casalemedia to the hosts file,
along with many other entries, all to be blocked. MSAS is probably blocking
these protections from Spysweeper. Unblock the item in MSAS and then turn off
MSAS. Turn off Spysweepers ads sites shield and click on Spysweepers "edit
hosts file" and see what's in there. Then turn the ads site shield back on
and recheck what's showing in "edit hosts file". Casalemedia should be there.
If all is OK, then turn MSAS back on and have it allow this if it asks again.
This is a buggy conflict between the 2 programs. The same thing happens if
you use Spybot S&D immunizations. MSASA also cannot tell when Spybot or
Spywareblaster is adding sites to the restricted zone. MSAS thinks they are
being added to the trusted zone and tries to block them. This needs to be
corrected.

Yes it is "adding", which I blocked.

I assume I should be blocking this action.

The other programs I have on this system is Spy Sweeper and NAV 2006

Thank you

If Webroot Spysweeper is doing the adding, then you should allow it. It is
adding it to the hosts file to block your IE from being able to go to the
casalemedia website, which is a dangerous site. When it adds it, it enters the
address for your computer so that if caselmedia is entered in the search bar,
you will not get there, you will get a balnk or cannot connect page. If it is
NOT Spysweeper doing the adding, then you should block it. I believe that
Spysweeper is doing it and that is OK

Spy Sweeper advised that their host module adds it, however I already blocked
it and will follow your previous instructions.

Thank you again.

I believe Old Rebel has found the source of the message you are seeing.
Microsoft Antispyware beta1 sometimes displays erroneous messages in
relation to this kind of operation--sometimes reversing the sense completely
of what is happening--stating that an addition to the Restricted Sites zone
is an addition to the Trusted Sites zone, for example.

In your case, I think this is an example of some small confusion that can
result when multiple anti-malware programs are in use--messages may result
that are confusing.
