Capturing Video

My Sony Digital8 Camcorder will do analog to digital conversion. I have some old home movies on video tape as well as some movies on my TiVo I would like to pass through the camcorder and directly capture on my notebook. The problem is when I try to capture the video through movie maker it wants to read from the tape. I can see the video playing live in the preview screen but as soon as I click the button to start capturing it tries to start a tape to capture from it. Even if I leave the tape out it just reports the error that there is no tape in the camcorder. I just want to capture the live passed through stream... is there any way to do this. I know I could record the video on the camcorder's tape and then transfer it from that but the video degradation would be too much not to mention the movies on my TiVo are longer than the tape holds. The camcorder is connecten by the firewire cable. Is there any other way to import this stream?

Thanks,

Rick

Microsoft released a utility last April to help with pass-thru.... see the
Problem Solving > Checklist page of my site for a link to it.... look at the
3rd paragraph in the section about "...Limitations...'
