Capturing video from camcorder to movie software

I am having trouble capturing video from my Sony DCR-
TRV900 camcorder to two movie software programs on my HP
Pavilion 7754 custom computer. The software (Sonic MyDvd
and Arcsoft Showbiz) came preinstalled.

The picture is not smooth and the sound is garbled. I
have been unable to get satisfactory answers from HP.
Another software program (MovieMaker) which also came
preinstalled, does work!!

Can someone help me?

Try downloading windows encoder,use the edit video/audio
on the opening page.The encoder is at wmp/dwnloads,its
a great utility for recordind/editing.
