I have a Panasonic PV-GS39 and am trying to transfer video from the camcorder
tape to computer. I bought a firewire card and cable. I start the process
by:

1. Capturing from video device
2. Entering a file name for my captured video
3. Selecting a video setting (best quality for playback on my computer)

However, when select the capure method (entire tape or parts) I receive this
error message:

1. The specificed DV device is not responding. Verify that the device is
connected properly and turned on, and then try capturing again.

Could someone please help me fix this problem?

Correct order for connecting cam.
Turn on pc.
Connect firewire cable
Turn on cam, to playback/vcr postion

When turning on cam you should get the windows found new hardware ping, do
you?

If yes, then we take one track, if no, we go somewhere else :)

I followed your instructions. I hear the ping. Then:

1. The digital video device screen pops up. I click on record video using
Windows Movie Maker and click ok.

Then I start the process by:

1. Entering a file name for my captured video
2. Selecting a video setting to capture my video (best quality for playback
on my computer)

However, when select the capure method (entire tape or parts) I receive this
error message:

1. The specificed DV device is not responding. Verify that the device is
connected properly and turned on, and then try capturing again.

Am I missing something?

Is the camara in playback mode?
Is there a chance that the camara might have a setting to enable/disable
firewire/USB communication channel?

The digital video camcorder is in playback mode. I can control camcorder's
functions (rewind, fast forward, play and stop) on the computer screen
without touching the camcorder.

For some reason when it tries to caputure, the error message appears: "The
specificed DV device is not responding. Verify that the device is connected
properly and turned on, and then try capturing again."

Sorry been busy with work.
Can you find another cam/cable /pc combination you can see working and test
your items with those, as a bent pin or something like that may be stopping
a full transmission of data.
