Capture movie from disc

Is it possible to capture video into MM2.1 from a disc or video file on
disc? I presume I would need to convert from .vob to mpeg to do this?
What software should I use?

Yes, and if it's a DVD yoiu would have to then convert the MPEG-2 file to an
AVI. See the Importing Source Files > Video > Discs page of my site
