Caption as Textbox

I used to have captions as textboxes automatically but since today I don't
have them anymore. The problem is that I can't move the captions anymore...
(except of creating a textbox+caption manually, but thats too inconvenient).
Do you have any idea how to change it again?

The caption will be in a text box if the item selected for captioning is
wrapped. But note that captions in a text box cannot be seen by Word for
purposes of cross-references or a Table of Figures. You'd be much better
advised to put graphic and caption together in a frame or leave both inline.
You can move an inline caption just the same as you can move any other text.

Word 2007 does "see" captions in text boxes, but for backward compatibility
reasons it is still a good idea to make use of frames.

How do I wrap graphics then?

Insert the graphic and caption together into a frame, then set the wrapping
on the frame to Around.

Set the insertion option (Word options > advanced) or the graphics layout
property (Text wrapping on the picture format tab) to something other than
'in-line'

If you use frames, frames too have a wrap option

The wrap options for frames are found in the Frame dialog box, which you can
display by right-clicking the frame border and choosing the Format Frame
option from the context menu.

To add a frame in Word 2003, you can use the Insert Frame command on the
Forms toolbar. In Word 2007, you'll find the command by clicking the Legacy
Tools button on the Developer tab.

I always inserted captions in 2003 so they would appear in a TOC. I am not
familar with frames, and the term does not appear in the help/search feature.
Can you suggest a link where can I get the nitty-gritty of using them in 2007?

If this is only a 'legacy' command in 2007, does that mean it is being
phased out?

MS has been trying to phase out frames ever since the text box was
introduced, but they won't die. In earlier versions this was primarily
because text boxes were unsuitable for certain purposes (see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=268713). This has been somewhat improved
in Word 2007 (Word can "see" text in text boxes when generating TOCs and
cross-references), but I don't imagine that the same change has been made
wrt form fields since these have also been defined as "legacy tools."

If you inserted captions that could be seen in a TOC in earlier versions,
you probably inserted them In Line With Text. This is the default if you
create a caption for an inline graphic, but if you use Insert | Reference |
Caption with a wrapped graphic selected, Word 2003 puts the caption in a
text box, which the TOC/TOF cannot see.
