Hello,

I'm trying to have the CAPS LOCK - SHIFT key behave as they did on old
typing machines that is you get the caps when hitting the CAPS LOCK but you
turn it off using the SHIFT key.

Is there any way to do this in Windows XP?

Thanks in advance

P.S. it used to be set in the registry in the NT4 time using an Attribute
value on the Keyboard Layouts but this doesn't seem to work any longer in XP

The way you want the CAPS LOCK and the Shift key NEVER existed in any
DOS/Windows versions.

Are you thinking of Typewriters? I haven't seen this option for a computer
that I can remember.

Perhaps you are thinking of "Shift-Lock" in NT4?

In Xp there is a location to select Turning off Caps lock by pressing
Caps lock "OR" the Shift Key, but not either/both.

See Control Panel, Regional and Language, Languages, Details, Settings,
Preferences, Key settings.

My laptop is fixed that way. I looked in GOOGLE under "CAPS LOCK SHIFT"
and found quite a few hits. The first one is:
