hp pavilion xt412, purchased in November, 2002

Cannot execute CD mastering program; can't write. Receive
error, "CD mastering application encontered a problem."
Spent three hours with hp instant support. Ended up
recommending me to buy and install another manufacture's
program. Now have Veritas software. Veritas no longer
supports the software. Have recovery software that came
with the computer, but don't want to do a total recovery.

You can download the software for your computer's CD-RW
drive from HP website.

Or you can buy a third party program such as Nero or Easy CD
Creator.

I had this problem after receiving the latest XP security update. Make
sure that's not your problem before buying new hardward.

I've contacted MS support. I don't have a solution yet...I'll try to post
one here if/when I get one.

Steve,

I have a friend with the same problem, so do please try to keep us posted.

Thanks.

Steve,
I went to hp.com and downloaded a later version of the
Veritas software. It worked! Thanks for your help.

Has anyone figured out yet how to get the CD-r's working again when they
quit working after the security update from Microsoft?
