After going into sleep mode nothing will wake machine up. M/B LEDS show
activity. Monitor stays asleep. Mouse/keyboard on and active. Auto run w/
cd-rom also a no go. Hammer on side of case just made me feel better.

I too had that problem. I eventually turned off the sleep function under the
power settings. Machine was on, but no video. VERY annoying...I too found
solice in an aluminum Hot Bat to the case.

My laptop does the same thing and I have to reboot. I have noticed it seems
to be most often when my battery is low, but it should still wake up.
Somebody help our comatose Vistas!

I just got a new Dimension E521 with Windows Vista and I am having the same
problem. I set it to never go to sleep, and that seems to work, but it is
troublesome. Makes me wish that I did not get Vista.

Same thing here. I'm new to Vista and the sleep mode basically causes me to
have to hold the power button down to shut down and restart in order to get
back on my computer. Please help!

I have another Vista with dysfunctional insomnia. At the moment I have
disabled the sleep function by choosing "High Performance" Power Option,
which is set to never put the computer to sleep. Right now it is not worth
the fight vs. leaving it on all the time. I do have the display set to turn
off in 20 minutes. I will see how this feels for a couple of days.

I'm also having the same problem.. The exact same "symptoms".

When i close the lid the computer goes into sleep mode when i open the lid
again it appears that the computer turns back on but the screen stays black.
In the end I shut it down abruptly by holding down the power button for 3 sec.

I got a Genex laptop model M570U3.

Microsoft is currently working on a hotfix for Vista sleep problems. You
can get it now throught Microsoft but they suggest to wait until it appears
in a future update.

I'm having the EXACT same problem. It is hugely distressing and frustrating.
Especially being a university student wherein classes are long and battery
power is short - so having sleep mode WORKING would be useful.
I too, have the same symptoms - closing the lid puts it into sleep mode but
it will not get out of sleep mode and the only way to get the screen to light
up again is to hard boot (press down the power button) until it shuts off and
then restart it again. I'm pretty sure this isn't very good for my laptop.

I have exactly the same problem and came up with the same solution as
everyone else (close down never). It is very frustrating however, rather
like having to use a hammer to insert a screw. Let's hope Microsfoft comes
up with a solution soon.

Same distressing problem here. Hope this gets enough attention to make MS
produce a fix.
Setting the PC to sleep works for me but resume is not always successful.
Sometimes the computer freezes with a dark display and only restart helps.
There's better chance for successful resume if the sleep was initiated
manually.
After restart, memory content is retrieved from hdd (I'm using the hybrid
sleep feature) but there's heavy hdd activity and the PC is very
irresponsive. It seems to take longer to get ready for work then if a boot
with loading all the services was performed - a sad result.

Seems like a long-shot, but try creating a new power profile. I was
recently working on a machine that refused to wake-up from sleep unless it
was forced off and back on. After toggling tons of settings in the current
profile, simply creating a new one seemed to work. My only other guess
would be that your power supply isn't giving enough power to the graphics
card--which should only effect you if you've recently upgraded.

Good luck!

I'm new here just been looking around like everyone for a solution to this
Problem........Been there and done that, also got the hammer. But so far
since yesterday everything is working ok. This is what i've done. Disabled
power options for mouse...Device mgr. Mouse properties clear allow to wake
computer. (Use spacebar on Keyboard to wake up), in Device manager changed
put hard drive to go to sleep at never. I have updated Bios..( be careful
there.) Keeping my fingers crossed.. Good luck.
