when i try to open up most media (seems to happen with any kind of
movie/moving picture), i get this picture at the top left corner, of a small
white boxof a red square, green circle, and blue triangle all inside. seen
here:

i don't know what is wrong, but most websites have this problem, and i
always see the box under the advertisements section of websites. when i try
to launch a video, i get that box.

anyone know what is wrong? it does not work on AOL either.

It's called a placeholder.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options
Click the "Advanced" tab, Scroll down to "Multimedia", check everything except "Show image
download placeholders". Click "apply", "OK"

Also click the "General" tab, Under "Temporary Internet Files", click the "Delete Files" button,
check the box, "Delete all offline content", "OK". After it finishes, click the "Settings"
button and lower the amount of disk space to use to 20 Meg. Click "OK", "Apply". That will
increase your hard drive space by how much was in that folder. I've seen it well over a gig.
Folders that big are prone to crosslinked files. Clear it weekly, or sooner, especially if IE
starts acting funny. You can automate the process by clicking the "Advanced" tab, scroll down to
"Security", and check the box, "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed",
click "Apply", "OK"

thanks for the help, but it still doesnt work. it might have to do with a
missing or bad program. would anyone know what program it might be, or what i
should do to fix this? i tried the below method three times, and it didn't
work.
