Can't view external sites

There seems to be something blocking IE. I can view local sites, but if I
try to view any external sites, it fails saying page can not be found - DNS
Error.

The strange thing though is that if I open any folder in Windows Explorer,
then type a web address from there, it works fine!?!?!

Any ideas gratefully accepted.

First eliminate any spyware.

All I did was rest the winsock and it worked fine. Many thanks for your
