OK, here is a weird problem in Outlook XP. When I open the app and go
to view my contacts they are all gone. But no -- they aren't really
all gone and the method to re-add them in tools - email accounts
(makes sense to look for contacts in email) and then add in the
Outlook contacts does not work.

What does work is if I right click on the contacts icon in the left
nav pane and choose "open in a separate window" I get a full view of
my contacts! What happens when I view the contacts icon in the same
pane is that I never get presented with the "current view" listing for
address book, etc. Instead, if I shift from calendar to contacts I
still have the view for calendard both in the left and right panes.

Anyone else have this issue?

BTW, I personally find it to be an administrative nightmare because
extra "books" keep getting added to it.

If you right click on the Contacts folder and choose Properties, is the Show
this folder as an email address book box checked on the Outlook Address Book
tab

Thank you Vince -- yes, it is. But there is a catch. I can't right
click on the Contacts folder because I don't see any. I only have a
representation in the toolbar and right clicking gives me the choice
to open in a new window (which works) or to set what appears on the
nav bar.

How do I know about the "show this folder as an email address book"
box? Because if I right click on the contacts icon in the nav bar and
open in a new window, I see all my contacts and the view menu. Then I
go to file - folders - properties for contacts. That's when I can view
the attributes and the box is checked.

This is a strange but real problem.

Can you choose to show the Folder Tree? That option may be under the View
menu (not sure since it's been a long time since I ran OL2002)

I'm using Outlook 2003 -- and the folder does show up when I view
folders through the menu.

OK, you mentioned that you were using Outlook XP (which was OL2002).
