I recently reinstalled XP Pro & now Update doesn't work. Every time that I
try to install updates, it fails. Why? What do I have to do to correct the
problem?

Thank you.
David

I wouldn't update at all if I were you. I can't prove it but M$
collects info thru the updates as well as thru the "error report"
scheme. You're fine.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Method 1 is usually sufficient.

[Try Resolutions Method 1 and/or 2]

NB: Ignore the title, if necessary; also applies to Upgrade installs, and
Recovery installs.

What an *incredibly* absurd statement. What's wrong with installing
Critical Security Updates ?
You really need to loosen that tin foil hat and let your brain breathe.

Hi
Have you also updated the Service Packs? I believe that without the
Service packs installed, updates will not work.

Hi
I shall try the link and reply to the Group once I find out what happens.
Thanks
Barry

I was not replying to you, Barry. Stick with your own thread, please.

Because they do anything but secure you. On the contrary, they
communicate your metadata that is picked up in the hidden $LogFile on
the root of the drive. You can just as easily protect yourself with
SYGate firewall, a good antivirus, a good antimalware, and most
important of all: common sense.

You don't know shit.

Will the same procedure help if I have Windows 2000. I can't get updates
either. Can anyone help with this?

What about security updates!? Without them you're not.

Sure I am. I've been for the last 5 years, because nothing accesses
the net that I don't know about, and no one accesses my computer
besides the Shared Folder that I don't know about because I got a
Firewall with all ports stealth and a process manager that makes sure
nothing runs without my approval.

You just gotta take control of the OS.

You're a dreamer.
