Hi All,

With Windows XP Pro, SP2, firewall on, I can not access FTP servers;
as soon as I turn the firewall off, I can access all the FTP servers I
need.

Can anyone help, PLEASE?
TIA,
JBR

Assuming you try to access a FTP server from XP, this may help.

go to "Internet options"
click on the "Advanced" tab
make sure that "Use passive FTP" is NOT clicked

Please post back with the result.

I don't use many ftp servers, but with both the ftp servers I've been
trying to access, the situation is the same, the error message (in
IExplorer) is always Timeout, untill I turn off the the firewall, in
which I enter the servers instantly

can you telnet port 21?

I've tried, but with equally failure in both servers.

JBR

Provide IP of FTP server.

I don't have a clue of how to find that out, but I can give you the
address of both servers:

a) ftp.softtalk.co.uk
b) esd-trados.subscribenet.com

Regards,
JBR
