there--I haven't even been able to read them all yet, and may not get to
that tonight.
Turns out the firewall settings were a bit off. Fixed that, updated good.
Knew something was up when the same error was keeping me off the Windows
Updates area. So I'd say this is done.

At corporate, I use authenticated proxy server and I already disable the
firewall but I can't update Windows Defender (Beta 2). It get the Internet
Explorer Connection Settings like Windows Anti Spyware did?
Yes - I believe it does still use the IE connection settings.
However, rather than going to Spynet for definitions, it uses AutoUpdate,
WindowsUpdate, or WSUS to acquire the definition files, which are released
as updates over these mechanisms.
If you are on a managed network where these updates are controlled, you need
to be running WSUS, and the WSUS admin needs to have enabled the new
category of updates available.
