Windows Defender was unable to update: 0x8024408

I just installed Windows Defender (Beta 2) and it says that my definitions
haven't been updated in 70 days. While trying to update these definitions I
get the following error: Windows Defender was unable to update: 0x8024408.
I tried to find a solution through Google, but no effort.
Anyone else is having this problem and what can I do to update the
definitions?

I have never been able to get Defender to update through its own interface,
but it will update if I go to Microsoft Update. Something is broken in its
built-in update mechanism!

Thanks. Interesting. But in this case, even when new updates are published in
Windows Update, Defender errors out when trying to grab them. I have to go to
the Windows Update site and they will install from there.

The joys of beta software :)

Are you on a corporate network? What servers does AutoUpdate connect to?

I am having the same problem. My Pc's are all stuggling, my autoupdates
connect to a wsus server on my network.

I've enabled defender in the Products and section of WSUS and also enabled
the download of definitions in the classifications section too.

Any ideas?

Thanks

It sounds like this should be working--the best place to ask about this is:

microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services (via NNTP) (or)

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/co...crosoft.public.windows.server.update_services

I looked for what I thought I remembered --a nice neat message giving all
the config details, but didn't find it--search on "defender" as a key.

I'm afraid I've never seen a WSUS admin interface, so I can't give you a
step by step.

Do the updates appear on the WSUS console?

Do you have a proxy server which requires authentication to connect to the
internet?
