I have a ibm thinkpad with win98 and IE6. I just tried to use in online after using it only offline for a while, and found i can't type in any field when using IE. I can click on buttons, links, anything, but just can't type anything into any boxes. I can type into the address box on the toolbar just fine. The cursor turns into the "I" just like it used to, but when i click in the box nothing happens, the "I" doesn't jump into the typing field like it should. No typing happenen' here! I have no other problems with any programs other then this. already re-installed IE6 with no improvemen
anyone got any ideas??????

I'm puzzled. Both those explicitly say they apply to IE5.0 only.
The original poster said he had IE6.0.

And I've got one more data point to add to this. I cannot type
into the MS Knowledgebase search text box. I can type into anything
else that I've tried without a problem. But it refuses to let me
type into the KB search. After a lot of fooling with this I did
find that I could type into Notepad, copy to the clipboard, then
do a rightmouseclick in the Knowledgebase search text box and choose
paste. That does correctly paste the text into the box.

And, I've got IE6.0, all the late patches, virus scanning set on kill,
security set up high, scan for blah blah... I believe that this is
just one of the IE6 bugs that have been introduced by the patches from
MS. I didn't have this problem initially and it appeared somewhere
along the way of installing all the patches. But I can't determine
which one might have caused it. I'm suspecting the same thing of the
many reports of shortcuts and icons being blown away that are related
to IE6, too many people are reporting that they think they "accidentally
must have deleted their IE shortcut." And I've seen it blow this away
when I deleted some html/graphics files off the desktop when I was
watching it very carefully.

Nope, all clean on that front, I'd be astonished if it were otherwise.

You're right. I should have checked those articles more closely. [235236]
is not likely to help and only a portion of [251787] is likely to help. I
*would* try clearing the autocomplete forms cache.

Do you have too much security? Are you allowing cookies? Try disabling, one
at a time, programs such as firewall, internet security, AV, etc. Try
putting microsoft in the Trusted Sites zone: Internet Options> Security.

Longshot... but in Internet Options> Accessibility, is User Style Sheet
checked?

Do you still have he problem with MSKB if you uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions" from Internet Options> Advanced? That would indicate
that another program is interfering with IE.
