Can't TS due to protocol error

Found a few articles but non solved the problem

I try to TS to a windows xp pro sp2 machine from any other type of machine
and get this error instantly

Because of a protocol error, the client could not connect to the remote
computer.


I've reinstalled sp2 and all the updates.. no errors in the eventlog.

I telnet to the TS port and it responds.. The machine is wide open.. no
firewall or antivirus..
