Can't tell which wireless AP you're connected to

Just wanted to confirm that if you are using XP's Wireless Network
Connection to manage WiFi connections, then Windows cannot tell you what
access point you are associated with.

Other vendor tools (IBM, Cisco, etc) will tell you the IP and/or MAC address
of the currently associated AP. This is crucial for troubleshooting
sometimes.

But I have never found anything similar in Windows XP.

Quick arp -a shows ip and mac
windows zero shows ssid which is all most people need to know to determine
their access point or the neighbors.

SSID is no use if you have multiple AP's on the same WLAN sharing a SSID.

"ARP -A" just resolves IP's to MAC's but I don't see how that tells you
which access point your using. In fact when I tried it, the IP of the AP
didn't even show.

I dont know ... trouble shoot away. You'll figure it out. If you dont
like WZC turn it off.
