Can't stop the password-remembering feature

WinXP's feature to remember various website passwords is not working
well for me and I want to turn it off. But I can't see how. The only
advice I've found is to click Remove on the list that appears in the
Manage Passwords dialog of Control Panel-> User Accts.

Only thing is, that list is empty! And I know Windows is remembering
passwords for at least a half-dozen sites, because once in a while I see
it trying to enter them.

How do I delete what it (supposedly) remembers, or at least stop it from
trying to fill in the passwords by itself?

Note, I'm *not* looking to change or remove my logon password, just to
stop XP from attempting to furnish the various stored-once passwords
when accessing web resources.

Thanks for any clues.

Under the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer or Control
Panel, go to "Internet Options". Under the "Content" tab,
click "AutoComplete". uncheck the "Usernames and
passwords on forms" option, and then click "Clear
Passwords." That should disable the remembering of
passwords.
