Can't stop multiple windows opening

My daughter who is at uni contacted me to say her computer which runs xp
(SP2 installed), opens multiple windows of any program she opens. For
example, if she opens internet explorer, the program will open say 50 times.
If she opens a folder, it opens lots of times. This has just suddenly
started happening today, its been fine till now. She has an up to date virus
checker and has done a full scan but found nothing. She has just used system
restore to put the computer back to last Friday but on restarting it just
does the same.
Any help / advice much appreciated.

I've never seen this particular problem but I'd try downloading Adadware
or/and Spybot she may have spyware on the PC causing the problem.

first :
verify keyboard ENTER is not getting stuck ... or MOUSE button is not
sticking ...

second:
Update your virus scan software and run full scan on computer
(if she is needing a virus scan software then a good FREE program is at
www.grisoft.com it's called AVG .. very user friendly)

third:
Get a copy of Ad-Aware at http://www.snapfiles.com (look the top 10 most
downloaded list it usually is at the top of the list) then after installing
run a complete scan on the computer

fourth:
Future reference : install a software firewall to prevent TROJAN viruses
from accessing the internet without you being aware of it ... a good
freebie is at www.zonealarm.com (look for the free version)
