Can't start mouse because configuation info in registry is damaged

Hi all,
Please can someone help. My mouse doesn't work and when
I check it's details in device manager I get 'Windows
cannot start the hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged (code 19). Click troubleshoot to start the
troubleshooter.

Troubleshooter in unable to help because it can't
uninstall the mouse device ... claims its necessary for
boot.

Thanks if someone can help. I don't really want to
reinstall windows.

John, next Startup tap F8 repeatedly. At the Menu select Safe
Mode with Command Prompt
Try a system restore from there.
