Can't Sort Messages

I was greeted with very strange behavior with Outlook 2003 today. I have
Outlook setup to sort the messages according to both to/from e-mail
addresses. I noticed today that a few messages were not moved to the
respective folder. I tried to move one of the messages from the incoming
folder to the correct one and got this error message, "Can't copy items. You
don't have permission to create an entry in the folder. Right-click the
folder, and then check properties to check your missions for the folder. See
the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions. I am the
Administrator. The sorting feature has been working great for years. My .pst
file is a little over 2 GB. Could that be a clue? Any other ideas.

I believe file size was the problem. I deleted many old messages and now I
can move files to other folders without the error. The file size still shows
a size of 2GB.

One question: Was your .PST file created in the new Unicode format for
Outlook 2003? I'm assuming it must have been if you're over 2GB already,
since 2GB was the absolute upper limit on .PST files created with the old
Outlook 97-2002 format and you probably wouldn't even be able to get into
your file right now if that were the case.

In any event, you might want to run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) on
your file to check for errors -- make sure you tell it to create a backup of
the original file before it changes anything. And look into AutoArchiving to
keep your main .PST smaller and faster.
