Hi.. I just upgraded my op from windows 98 to XP and when
I try to shut down my computer it wont. After clicking on
the shut down button I get to a screen that says it is
now safe to turn off yout computer. From that screen I
cant do anything. I have to reset my computer to do
anything. it just sits there and I cant get back on or
shut down. I want to take a sledge hammer to this stupid
thing and just kill it. Can anyone help me here?

dont feed your computer sugary foods or cafeinated
bevarages,

control panel power options if available enable apm.

if not there enable in bios first and then enable in xp.

or update the bios .

just hit the power button on your computer after it
says it's now safe to turn off your computer....
It's actually better if you changed your hard drive
when you upgraded your OS...because there are some
programs (WIN98) that still exists in your hard drive
until now!!! In XP, it's an automatic shut-down unlike in
previous OS you need to shut them down manually....

cheers buddy,

A probable cause is that your installation found the BIOS does not
adequately support the 'Advanced Configuration & Power Interface'
(ACPI). It then installs the older APM, but leaves it disabled. Go to
Control Panel - Power Options, and if there is an APM page, check
'Enable APM' on it.
