I have a network with a XP box as the host and one XP system as a client and
a windows 98SE system as the second client. Both XP systems are home edition.
ICS works on all systems, so the network is functioning. I am unable to share
my C drive on my XP server. When I go into properties of the drive, there is
no "sharing" tab present. On my client XP box, there is a sharing tab. Why do
I not see a sharing tab on this drive?

Try rebooting into safe mode and selecting the admin account. Is the tab
there then?

You probably have simple file sharing enabled. When that's in place,
there's no sharing button (because it's supposed to be fully shared). Try
disabling simple file sharing and that should bring up the sharing tab where
you can have more control.

Tab is not present even in safe mode.

Bruno

See the other post but in order to do that you have to be in safe mode with
the admin account as it's hidden by default in XP Home Edition.

Both of my XP systems are Home version. In XP home, simple file sharing is
enabled by default. Still the sharing tab should be visible. On one of my XP
boxes it is, on the other it is not. Very strange isn't it?

The Sharing tab should normally be visible. Run the Network Setup
Wizard on the problem machine and see if that fixes it.

If it doesn't:

1. Make sure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is
installed and enabled for the local area connection.

2. Make sure that the Server service is running in Start | Run |
services.msc. Have you disabled that or any other system services?

3. Look for relevant messages in Start | Run | eventvwr.msc. See this
site for details:

Steve,

I ran the Netowrk setup wizard again. Still no sharing tab for the C drive
or any other drives.

1. File and Print service is installed and enabled (checkmark)

2. Server Service is running (started)

3. I am bit at a loss here on what I should look for.
Under Application events I see frequent events relating to wuauclt (736) The
database engine stopped respectivel started

Under security there are messages like:
-special previleges assigned to new logon (this seems to refer to my Win98
labtop on the net)
- Logon attempt by: Microsoft_authentication_package_v1_0, Logon account:
guest (this is also my win98 labtop)

Under System there seems to be mosltly events relating to the internet
connection and McAfee virus scan and firewall.
