Can't set Word as email editor in Outlook 2003

Jim

I'm recovering from a system crash and am having trouble getting Outlook
2003 working correctly again. I want to use Word 2003 as my email editor,
but when I go to:
Tools, Options, Mail Format the boxes for "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to
edit e-mail messages" and "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to resd Rich Text
e-mail messages" are grayed out.
I did a complete Windows Professional reinstallation and added all SPs and
patches.Windows Update says I am 100% up to date.
I did the same thing with Microsoft Office Professional 2003, everything is
current.
I used to be able to do this before, any ideas what could be wrong now? Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already done a detect and repair in
Outlook. I also did a detect and repair from the Office 2003 installation
disk and from the Windows XP installation disk. Nothing worked. Any other
ideas?
Thanks

Are there any Registry entries I can search for that would point to the
current editor for Outlook 2003?

I found that entry in the registry. The data value for EditorPreference is
0x00020000. Can you interpret that for me?
Thanks

it can only end with 0 or 1 - so change it and see if it works as you want.
(0 is use outlook, 1 is use word)

I got it. I reloaded Office 2003 Professional for the 2nd time, and now I
can pick Word as my email editor in Outlook 2003!
Thanks to everyone who took the time to help me with this.

I have the opposite (and extremely annoying) problem, all was
working fine yesterday
but when I came in this morning and tried to send an e-mail Microsoft
Word e-mail editor
opened instead of my preferred Outlook editor. I now cannot turn it
off as the options are
grayed out. I have searched for solutions but not having any luck.
I've done the detect
and repair, checked the registry setting noted (and it ends in 0 so my
default SHOULD
be Outlook) but the Outlook Use Word mail format options are both
checked AND grayed.
Solution to this problem would be much appreciated! Thank you!

is the computer left on all night or did you boot up fresh this morning?

You do have the same version of outlook and word installed, correct?
