Is the wireless network in your house or is it an external hotspot? If it's
external it could be that your mail provider doesn't allow you to connect to
their server off their network. That's usually the case for SMTP (sending)
servers not POP3 (receiving) servers but I can't be sure without more info
about the wireless network and/or your mail servers

that usually means incorrect authentication settings. Are your SSL settings
correct for the server? Check your server's online help and verify you have
the correct settings in outlook.

authenticate in the wireless or in the mail client? you need to set it in
the mail client and it should not disable the wireless when you do.

tools, email accounts, view or change - double click on the account. Verify
the configuration is connect and click more settings to check outgoing
settings. You should also visit your providers web site - they should have a
how to page for configuring email mail.

Do you have TCP/UDP ports closed on your wireless router so that you can't
reach the servers? Who set it up initially?

In the case of the mail provider not permitting connection, is that a
situation the provider would be aware of? And by changing to a provider that
allows off network connections, would the problem be resolved?
I've been in contact with sbcglobal/yahoo (my provider) & no one there has
been any help so far.
Thank you
