can't send mail through windows mail

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'editorial cartoon',
Account: 'comcast.net', Server: 'comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have Vista 32 bit. I have tried changing the smtp from 25 to 587 and
selecting and deselecting "my server requires authentication. Nothing works.
I want to use Windows Mail for Windows Photo Gallery with Comcast as my ISP

Your primary problem is a wrong mail server name. The outgoing mail
server name should be smtp.comcast.net. Also change the port to 587,
and use "My server requires authentication".

I tried using port 587 and it did not work.. the adjustment that worked for
me is using secure password authentication. this is a common practice by
admins to protect the mail server from spam. Here's the procedure:
Go to - Tools -> Accounts -> select your email account -> properties ->
Servers tab -> check box "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" and
"My server requires authentication" -> Settings -> check "use same settings
as my incoming mail server".. that's it.

In my experience, most mail providers do not use that "Log on using
Secure Password Authentication" option.
As a safe rule, always use the settings published by the mail provider.

I see the problem resolved itself later.
I'm curious why you are using IP address 62.24.128.134
instead of the server name. That IP belongs to Opal Telecom.

I'm not sure what could be changing your mail server name into
an IP address. Change it back and keep an eye on it.
Make sure any antivirus or anti-spyware software has its
interaction with email disabled.

I don't know. Being a USA resident, I'm not really familiar
with UK ISP's.

Let us know if your problem with Windows Mail returns.
