Can't send forwarded or replied to messages in Outlook 2003

I have posted before on this under a different subject
("Outlook using POP3 server to send email"), but I've
since narrowed the problem down to not being able to send
a message as a fw: or a re: . I've tried forwarding to
addressees with different domains without success, so I
don't think it's an issue of not being able to send to
only specific domains.

Here is what happens: I get an error
message: "Task 'incoming.verizon.net-Sending' reported
error (0x800CCC78): 'Unable to send the message. Please
verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The
server responded: 553 Authentication is required to
send mail as <my email address>'.

There are times when Outlook seems to "ignore" the mail
sitting in my outbox, and the send/receive box has no
errors, yet the forwarded or responded to email is still
there. I then go into that email in my outbox,
click "send" on the email, then "send/receive" and I get
the error message. New messages seem to be unaffected by
this. All of my settings are correct per what my ISP has
instructed. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this.
I've gone through my ISP tech support, and they say it's
a software issue.

The error you are getting indicates you are trying to send using a server
other than the one on which you are currently running your session. The fix
for this is to set your outgoing server to authenticate using the incoming
server credentials.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

I do have my outgoing server set to authenticate using
the incoming server credentials.

Could it be that my Outlook Express is conflicting? I
have another email account (with the same ISP) set up in
OE. Would that explain why my Outlook Send/Receive
Progress box shows 2 outgoing servers and 2 incoming?

I apparently fixed the problem. I removed both my Outlook
settings and my Outlook Express settings, rebooted, and
set up the accounts again in each program. I'm now able
to send forwards and attachments in Outlook. I'm posting
this in case anyone else has the same problem in the
future.

No. Outlook Express coexists quite happily with Outlook. The message you
posted:

"Task 'incoming.verizon.net-Sending' reported
error (0x800CCC78): 'Unable to send the message. Please
verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The
server responded: 553 Authentication is required to
send mail as <my email address>'."

seems to indicate you're trying to send a message via an incoming, not an
outgoing, server. I wouldn't expect "incoming.verizon.net" to be the name
of the outgoing server.
