can't send emails

I just bought a Dell laptop with windows Vista and microsoft outlook 2007.
For the life of me I cannot get my computer to send emails. I have checked
my outgoing and incoming server settings. I get the same errors as Lee and
others have posted. I have not installed my antivirus software yet. Is it a
problem with Vista? From reading the posts it seems like a common problem.
Any solutions?
 
Are you using Microsoft Outlook or Windows Mail?
Please post a complete copy of the error message you get.
