can't send email in outlook2000

steve

I have outlook 2000 installed and use exchange server at
work and a dial up ISP at home. I can send and receive
emails ok at work using the exhange server, but when I go
home and use my dial up account to my ISP I can receive
emails but cannot send (they remain in my outbox. I
suspect that outlook is trying to use the exchange server
to send but don't know how to cure. Also, what email
address is being send out as "from field" as this field
is blank. I suspect this is related to my problem.

Can someone please help

First of all, what mode do you have Outlook running in? See Help->About,
second line should say either Corporate or Workgroup or Internet Mail Only.

If Corporate or Workgroup mode, what mail transport are you using? Check
Control Panel, Mail Icon. If you do not have an Exchange server at home
(only true geeks like me do), then you should be using an Internet Mail
Service. This service should be using your ISP mail settings, not
Exchange... so you cannot be sending using Exchange settings.

Also, check to see if your ISP has recently changed to using authentication
to access their mail server. As another thought, if you were connecting to
Exchange at work not using a VPN, you also might want to ask them if they
are blocking Port 135 as many ISPs are beginning to do.

Post back once you have contacted your ISP and have more information and
someone can help you out.

If you click the small black arrow next to the word "SEND", it will show you
which account is being used as the return address
