I have never been able to send an e-mail through windows mail since i set up
my account. all my user names and accouts (pop and smtp) are the same as when
i had outlook express and I have allowed windows mail through the fire wall
along with port 25. I can receive e-mails no problems. this is a common
message I receive..

The connection to the server has failed. Subject '...', Account:
'pop.tpg.com.au', Server: 'mail.tpg.com.au', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The outgoing server, SMTP, has to be the one that you are connecting to to
be able to send.

How do you connect, Dial-up, BB, LAN or Cable etc?

Disable any third party interference to your mail, such as spam blockers and
the mail scan option in your AV application.

Try Tools>accounts>double click account>connection tab>remove the check mark
from 'always connect using'>ok/apply your way out.
Can you now send?

Consider contacting your ISP or checking in at there web site for any
changes they may have made to the server names?
http://www.tpg.com.au/ ??
HTH?

All my ISP server names (incoming and outgoing) are correct and up to date,
there is no check mark on the "always connect using" in the "connection" tab
my AV is switched onto do not scan for spam, I connect through broadband ADSL
2+ connection. I have also tried without the phishing and junk mail filters
through windows mail.

are there any other possibilities you can think of? really appreciate your
help!

The error message indicates that you are failing to connect to the server.

Usual cause is incorrect server settings, or the server is down?

Go to Tools>Accounts>Mail>Properties>Servers Tab. Under
Outgoing mail server, check the box for My server requires
authentication. Next, click the Settings button and reinsert
your user name, and the password. Try again, if that fails remove the
authentication checkmark.

Try completely removing the account and rebuild it from scratch.

If that fails I can't think of any other action but to call your ISP for
assistance, maybe some one else has another suggestion?

I am curious. Why are you connecting via bigpond.net.au,
yet you are using mail servers belonging to tpg.com.au?
Normally that sort of cross use isn't allowed.

I have recently moved out of home and i got a bigpond internet, but still
remain using the e-mail address i got on my parents account when i lived
there. Do you think that is the problem?

If you re-read the first comment that I made, some 14 hours ago,

"The outgoing server, SMTP, has to be the one that you are connecting to to

Then yes Gary is correct!!

Yes, that is the problem. Port 25 SMTP requires one to be
connected to that same network. You can still use the
tpg.com.au account if you will change its outgoing server
to the bigpond outgoing server. There is no requirement
for a given account to have a matched server pair.
