This is a new for me?

F8 is used in two palces.
A.
During install F8 is used to add more drivers to the initial startup system,
like a SCSI controler that is needed to complete the install.

B.
F8 is then used when Windows is booting up to display the bootup options
list, like safe mode, last configuration, etc.

If they told you to boot in safe mode to do the install for some specific
reason concerning your Trojan, then use option B. above.

But noramlly you would boot up windows, and run the setup off the CD either
via autorun or Slecting the CD-ROM drive from explorer and doulbling
clciking a setup or install program.

I did not see anything on the Norton site about booting from their CD?

When I put the cd in the drive & click to install nortons
system works then I get this message: If you are
installing nortons system works to investigate a possible
virus then restart from the cdto remove the virus before
installing!....So I booted up the conputer & hit the
delete key & went to advance settings & changed first boot
to cdrom but it still boots to the hard drive so I tried
the f8 & select boot from cdrom still boots from hard
drive ...I have got to the window where it gives a choice
to boot from hard drive or cdrom but not able to use the
arrow keys to choose boot from cdrom.

Another way is to create a floppy boot disk set, 6 disks, boot from
there then run the installation from the CD.

How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks

OK, that was my 3rd guess, a pre-scan .

When you get the 1 or 2 options, it may be just a header.
So you type in a 1 or a 2, not select.
try that.:)

I tried that & its like I have no keyboard at that point!
I've also tried making the boot disks like the other
reply here suggested & when I boot with them the first one
does its job & it tells me to put in disk #2 & press enter
so I do & nothing again like no keyboard response!
