hi all

i'm using outlook 2003 and i don't know when (or why) this problem started
but when i click on the attach icon in an email and browse my files i DO NOT
SEE zip files in the displayed files. If i create a zip file with the
browse window open i still do not see it.

have i done something or is this microsoft attempting to protect me from
myself again - and how can i fix it.

Cheers

If you are running Windows XP, it probably more of the operating system
treating ZIP files like folders. Try this:

regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

start Outlook and see if you can access/attach a zip.

To put XP back the way it was.

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

/neo

ps - fwiw, many install a 3rd party zip program like winzip, winrar, .etc.
this tends to help break the built-in windows xp feature.

Hi neo

thanks for this .. it worked (however, the zipped file icon is showing an
"unknown" icon rather than the zip one - but i can live with this).

i haven't installed a 3rd party zip program (even though i do prefer winzip
over the xp compression program) ... so i don't know why it suddenly started
happening. but its fixed now so that's good.

cheers

If you don't have a zip program installed, Windows has no file association
for zip files from which to determine an icon. You can open your Folder
Options (either from Windows Explorer's Tools menu or from the Control
Panel) and locate the .zip file type. You can then choose whatever icon you
wish from several Windows-supplied icon libraries.

Hi Brian

Thanks for you input.

however, when i went to open a zipped file today Windows figured it out and
i have my icons back now.
