can't see programs to uninstall

I have installed XP Pro onto my computer, I thought I had installed it over
my other version XP Home but it turns out that I now have 2 separate OS on
the computer. That is not ideal but nothing to worry about. My problem is
that all the programs that were installed before XP Pro are still on the
computer but are not found when I go to the uninstall/install new programs.
How can I get all the programs 'seen' by the uninstall utility from within
XP Pro

Cheers
Lenny

Hi Lenny,

Since you have 2 XP installations, you will be prompted
to chose which one to boot with during startup. Choose
to boot from your old XP Home installation, and you will
then be able to see all the old programs in your Add or
Remove programs menu. Hope that helps and good luck!

Boot to your old XP install and remove the new XP install.
Then do the upgrade correctly after reading the
instructions. That would be the best way to handle the
mix-up.

I thank you both. Why didn't I think of that! (boot up the old OS and delete
from there)

The easiest solutions are not always the most intuitive. :-)
Thanks for posting Lenny.

Lenny,

You've got an interesting problem. You've got 2 copies of XP on one
computer, only one has installed applications. Most Windows NT (XP)
compliant applications require you to run an installation procedure to
install and make system settings (such as creating the shortcuts to
the apps). Some apps may have a settings export feature, but I
wouldn't bet on it.

In order to get the apps visible within this copy, you're going to
have to install the apps again. Some apps may not like this;
licensing may make this impossible.

You have several options:
1) Install all the apps as is, which means reinstalling each, one at
a time, and telling each install "Yes, install in the folder that
already exists".
2) Uninstall XP Pro, and repeat the upgrade, making sure you get it
right this time.
3) Backup your data, reformat, and clean install. Then reinstall all
the apps into new folders.

I personally would take #3. You may find #2 better. #1 may work, but
will be almost as much work as #3.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Chuck
