Can't see more than 128GB of 300GB disk on W2K SP4...

I

Ian

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me out here...

- System is a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo 600 with W2K SP4

- Disk is a Maxtor 300GB PATA drive, connected as slave
on primary IDE. Pri Master is a 40GB Samsung SV4012H

- Done the EnableBigLBA registry edit, confirmed
with one of the 48bit LBA checking tools

- Disk manager only shows it as 128GB :-(

Updated mainboard BIOS, and the disk is now recognised
as 300GB in the BIOS setup menu, but still shows as 128GB
in Windows.

Tried connecting the disk as the only drive on the secondary
IDE - still only shows up as 128GB.

Reapplied SP4... still 128GB

Reinstalled "Intel ATAPI drivers" provided with the system... still 128GB

Ok, so what am I missing???

TIA,

You basically need to wipe the drive and repartition and
format it in disk management now. That will lose the data on it.

That the MBR has the old geometry detail in it and so you
need to wipe the drive and repartition and format the drive now.

Resizimg the partition, obviously.
Did you think it would resize all by it self?

Good call, I'll try this. Does this mean that Windows reads the
disk geometry from the BIOS and writes it to the MBR when it
"writes the signature" the first time it sees the disk?

Sort of, tho its not necessarily when it first sees
the drive, more when it first partitions the drive etc.

And what partition would this be? I haven't created a partition yet.

Odd.

You didn't indicate that to Rod Speed when he recommended a repartition
(meaning it had a partition on it already). In fact, you said it was a good
catch in response. Am I missing something here?
Already know what's going on, just want to hear further BS.

Hmmm, tried that (zeroed first block of disk) and loaded into Windows
with SP4, EnableBigLBA=1 and shiny new BIOS, and it still only shows
as 128GB in Disk Management :-(

Totlly stumped now!
