Cant see emails in inbox

Help! Yesterday an employee opened his outlook 2003 and his inbox said he had 25 new emails in the inbox, yet when you click on it, there is nothing there. Throughout the day it added more new messages (count is at 41 now) and still the inbox shows as empty. Anyone had this issue or have any idea how to fix it? Anything new I send him cant be retrieved.
