CAN'T SEE CD/DVD DRIVE

Ok.. since I upgraded to XP Pro, my computer recognizes
A, C, and D drives only... not my CD or CD burner drive.
Had to buy a new scanner that was XP compatible and can't
install the software that's on the CD!!!! I've tried
installing software.. everything to get it to "see" those
drives! HELP
