Can't Save Off-Line Files

I have a number of files stored on a Home Server; I have configued these
files to be available off-line on my Vista SP2 notebook. When I work in
off-line mode from my Vista SP2 machine and try to save changes to an Excel
2007 spreadsheet, I get an error that simply says "Not Saved." The only way I
can save the changes is to save the file with a different name. In Word 2007,
when I try to save changes, I get an error that is a little more descriptive
that says the network location cannot be found. Is this normal behavior for
off-line files?

Thank you for the reply. I should have been more clear that the problem I am
experiencing relates to the use of Vista's off-line synchronization. In this
case, copies of files are maintained on my local hard drive, and changes are
supposed to be synchronized to the server when I re-connect. For some reason,
though, I am not able to save changes and instead am forced to create new
files. Those files are then synchronized to the server, but I have to then
delete the originals and rename the old ones, which kind of defeats the
usefulness of the off-line functionality.
