Cant save due to "hidden" embedded font

On of my network users has an OLD powerpoint presentation that is
updated monthly and re-used. When she saves it, she gets an error that
some of the fonts cannot be saved, reason not installed. I have tried
doing a font replace, but the two fonts in question do not appear in
the list (fixedsys and small fonts).

Turning off embed fonts allows the file to be saved, and with no
obvious changes (Its 150 pages, so I havent scanned EVERY page yet.) I
have googled all the different error possiblities I can think of, but
have not found an answer other than turn off embedding. Is there any
way to find out where this embedded file was apparently used? Or is
turning off embedding our only option.

Thanks in advance!

Here are a couple of places to start.

PowerPoint opens presentations as Read-Only, won't allow editing when fonts
embedded

Jeff -
Do you have Fast Saves turned on? If so, it might be causing this. Scenario
is: You have deleted the font, but it is still in the document somewhere
because Fast Saves is on and saves things differently. Try turning it off
(Tools--> Options--> Save tab) and re-saving the presentation under a new
name. (You will need to make sure it is off on her machine as well.)

Wow. If PPT allowed FixedSys and SmallFonts to be used as fonts, it must have
been one of the really early versions that let you output stuff like overhead
stone tablets and such. <g>

It may be that the oddball fonts are embedded in a group or a graphic but
before chasing that, try this ...

I recently added a feature to our free PPTools Starter Set
(http://starterset.pptools.com) that allows you to do certain font replacements
that PowerPoint itself won't do.

You'll want to read this to learn how to use it:
