Cant run Windows Messenger

J

Jeff

Here's a twist.

I did something a while back to stop messenger starting up automagicly.
Great.

I now want to use Remote Assist cos 2 members of my family have now got xp
boxes.

Problem is, when I run remote assistance and click on "invite someone to
help you", i get the following error message :

" An administrator has denied permission to use Windows Messenger. For
information, contact your administrator. "

If I try running messenger from the start menu, nothing happens.

I have tried re-installing it from "add/remove windows components". There
are 2MB of files in c:/program files/messenger.

Any ideas?

xp home
messenger v4 .7
athlonxp 2600
256mb
norton internet security 2003 (enabled or disabled - no difference)

Greetings Jeff,

Download and run these .reg files in the affected accounts:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After running these, reboot and then try opening Windows Messenger again.
