cant run system restore

after renewing my norton anti-virus program, my computer crashed, when i
tried to do system restore error message comes up and then my computer
immediately shuts down and restarts, does it every time, even if i try to
undo sytem restore. the error that comes up is DEBSOCKX.EXE-DLL
intialization failed.

Check the spelling of DEBSOCKX.EXE-DLL as it gets no returns in a Google
search.

It could be a virus. Try running a virus check online.

There are other ways if this approach fails to regain control of the
computer.

Download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that
A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

With Stinger you can download to another computer and put it on a
floppy. Write protect the floppy and run the programme in safe mode on
the affected computer.

If you detect a virus then after removing it turn off System Restore and
come back for further advice on how to clean the machine.

Have a look at the Error Reports in Event Viewer and post a copy of what
seems to be the most relevant.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your

(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

thanks gerry, looked in event viewer, so many errors showing dont know which
is causing problem, bit to confusing for me, i set up a newuser account to
see if any thing different, no error messages show up, but system still shuts
down when using system restore

In Event Viewer look for "sr" and "srservice". as the source. You will
find these , if any, on the System tab.

hi gerry, looked in event viewer, 4 errors keep showing up the first one is
W32Time and other is IPNATHLP, and System error, lastly Plugplaymanager.
